Another Continuing Resolution?
Another Shutdown in the Works
It’s almost October, so here comes another threat to shut down the federal government unless Congress passes yet another Continuing Resolution. Sean Moran at Breitbart reports:
Democrats Oppose Stopgap Spending Bill as Congress Edges Toward a Shutdown
House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) have come out against a Republican stopgap spending bill as Congress edges towards a shutdown.
House Republican leaders on Tuesday released the text for a stopgap funding bill that would set aside tens of millions of dollars for security assistance for lawmakers and federal officials amid heightened concerns about political violence after the assassination of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk.
The stopgap funding bill, otherwise known as a continuing resolution (CR), would seek to avert a government shutdown on October 1 and keep the government open through November 21.
The House aims to pass the spending bill later this week and seeks to pressure Schumer to back talks with Republicans to stop a shutdown.
However, Democrats do not approve of the House GOP plan.
No kidding. Why do we go through this charade year after year? Because when Congress fails to pass an actual budget, the out-of-control spending can continue.
During a shutdown, non-essential government operations cease, and federal agencies implement contingency plans to determine which functions continue and which are suspended. Non-essential federal employees are furloughed—placed on temporary unpaid leave—while essential personnel, such as military service members, law enforcement agents, air traffic controllers, and federal law enforcement, continue working without immediate pay.
“Non-essential government operations cease.” Why does the government have ANY “non-essential” operations or “non-essential federal employees”? So, shut the government down.
